Darmody Architecture led renewal and repair of an existing residential building at 180 – 187 Townsend Street, Dublin 2. Currently under construction, completion of the development will accommodate 20 residential one-bedroom units, providing improved access and bringing the building fabric up to current building regulations standard. The building in its current state is in a severe state of disrepair.

Completion of this project will demonstrate social responsibility and to bring an existing building in decay back to use and at the same time enliven a neglected streetscape within Dublin City Centre. The challenge was firstly to provide an improved approach and access to the apartments. Provision of a lift and ambulant disabled accessible stairs in the southern courtyard will afford dignified access and circulation to all. Proposed deck access via the warmer southern courtyard will afford most units access to the southern aspect and views to the inner courtyard.
