Sandford Road
This self-build home addition is the realisation of collaborative efforts of architect and client. The existing period house retains the living and sleeping accommodation and has been carefully restored while preserving the overall historic character of the house. The new contemporary addition establishes a clear dialog with the existing house taking advantage of the existing split floor levels. Comprising new ancillary accommodation at lower ground floor level and a new kitchen and dining space at upper ground floor level affords wonderful vista over the many landscapes to the west. The architectural vision ‘a monolithic form of carved out space’ is expressed through the tectonic design and interplay of its three primary elements – concrete, stone and glass.
